Positive: Slightly curved screen. Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch protection. Great price. Uses Android operating system. Water repellent coating. Packed with features. Decent camera with LED flash. LED notification light. Motorola Assist.
Negative: Camera could be better, but is alright. Lacks NFC.
Bottom Line: This phone is great for anyone who wants a full featured smartphone. It lacks NFC, but it has Motorola Assist to make up for that.
Price: $179 U.S
Full Review: The Moto G is an amazing phone. It is Motorola's mid range phone in terms of price (Moto E being the cheapest, Moto X being the most expensive). The Moto G is packed full of features. It is hard to believe that this phone is only $179 as it is just as good as a $300 phone. It has a curved display which is not that noticeable holding the phone, but laying the phone on a flat surface makes the curve very distinctive. There is a nano coating which makes the phone water repellent. Keep in mind that this phone is not water proof, so do not going swimming with it, but the phone should survive a small spill or some light rain. The display is made out of Gorilla Glass 3. The glass has a very glossy feel to it. One of my favorite features on the phone is the notification light. If you receive a text or an email the notification light will flash, however there is no way to tell what is making the light flash. The phone does lack NFC, but that is not so much of a problem because of Motorola Assist. Assist is an app that comes preloaded with the phone that helps you out with daily tasks. It can tell if you are driving and play your music through the car speaker, it also will read out text messages and you can keep focused on the road by using voice commands to answer calls or reply to text messages. The app will silence your phone during events that you set up using the calender. It will keep your phone silent when you are sleeping at night. It also will detect if you are at home and read your text messages aloud so you don't have to fumble around to check who is trying to get a hold of you. That app helps out a lot so you do not need NFC, but you still can't use your phone as a credit card. The Moto G has a decent camera, not anything special. It also has front facing camera too. The camera has a couple of features attached to it. You can take slow motion videos (however the sound is silenced), you can also take panorama photos. When making a call you do not have to worry about your face messing with the call because of the proximity sensor which turns off the screen while making a call. The battery will last throughout the day, but it needs to be charged quite often. I suggest turning the brightness low or use Auto mode, and to turn on the battery saver feature to get more out of each charge. I can get about one and a half to two days on a single charge. There is LED flash on the back of the phone so taking pictures in the dark is not a problem, also using a flashlight app helps. The phone itself is made out of plastic and glass, the plastic is not cheap feeling at all. It is a sturdy polycarbonate. Call quality is great, the microphone picks up sound very clearly. The phone includes Google Now which can be activated by going to the app or holding the home button and clicking the Google Now symbol. Once the app is open just tap on the microphone icon or say "Ok Google" and it will start up. You can use Google now to look information up on the internet or to make a phone call/ send a text message.
Overall I give this phone 5 stars. With a price of $179 and with all the features, you really cannot go wrong with a Moto G.
